I’m Bryson Malcolm, and I built Mosaic Scholars to give first-generation law students individual guidance through Big Law recruiting. The program is free and open to students of all backgrounds. I work directly with you on where to apply, how to prepare, who to meet, and which opportunities make sense for you.

The second Mosaic Scholars cohort includes 22 first-year law students across 11 law schools. I started recruiting and interviewing in January 2026. After months of conversations, I’ve brought together students with a wide range of political views, life experiences, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Starting in January gave me months to help students prepare for 0L pre-law internships and SEO summer interviews. Many secured summer 2026 positions before their first day of law school, at firms including Cravath, Latham & Watkins, Covington & Burling, Jones Day, and Debevoise & Plimpton.
The Scholars began getting to know one another before orientation, through group sessions and a shared thread. I want those relationships to stay useful throughout law school and their careers.
I’m waiting to introduce the new Scholars by name. They deserve to start law school without a spotlight on them, and I’m focused on helping each one find the firm they want. Once their roles are secured, I’ll make introductions as I did with the first cohort. The schools represented are listed above.

I get to know each Scholar and what matters to them so I can help you think through which firms, offices and practices might be a good fit. That advice will look different for each person.
I’m not there to sell you on a particular firm. You can ask me questions you might not feel comfortable asking at a recruiting event, and I’ll give you my honest take, including when I think you should reconsider something or when I don’t know enough to say.
Why I started Mosaic Scholars
Big Law recruiting puts a lot of pressure on students, and it starts earlier every year. I built this program so each Scholar has someone to talk things through with. I help you make a plan around your goals and circumstances, and I stay involved as you work through it.
I started with first-generation professionals and future first-generation attorneys in mind. If you arrive at law school without lawyers in your family or a ready-made professional network, you should still have someone who can explain how this works and help you make decisions. That support should last beyond a single recruiting season.”

Scheduled conversations, plus support as questions come up
Every Scholar has five guaranteed 30-minute individual sessions over the year, with additional guidance by text and phone as recruiting questions arise. I also host small group conversations for questions and current recruiting developments.
How research helps you choose
A firm name only tells you so much. I help you understand what the information means for the work you want to do.
Illustrative example · not a report about specific firms
You want to practice energy law in New York.
One office describes a large corporate practice. Another highlights a smaller energy team. Before deciding, I would look at the relevant attorneys in each office, recent team changes, and how summers and junior associates actually enter the practice.
Then I would identify people who can answer the missing questions: Is the work transactional, regulatory or litigation? Do juniors rotate? Who assigns matters? Can a summer express a practice preference, and how often is it accommodated?
Your next step is a better conversation with each firm. Firmwide headcount and a practice label alone cannot tell you which opportunity fits.
Mosaic advising draws on internal market research, including practice growth, attorney moves, retention and aggregated attorney experiences. I explain the scope and limits of the information before applying it to your decisions.
A few questions about the program
Can I participate in another program too?
Yes. Mosaic can complement academic preparation, mentorship and other fellowships. Keep track of each program's commitments so you can participate thoughtfully.
Do I have to be a first-generation student?
No. The program is built with first-generation professionals and future first-generation attorneys in mind, and students of all backgrounds are welcome to apply.
What is expected of a Scholar?
Stay in touch, follow through on agreed next steps, come prepared for conversations and treat introductions with care. Let me know when your plans or availability change.
Does the program include academic tutoring?
Mosaic Scholars focuses on career advising and recruiting. Doctrinal coursework and exam tutoring are not included. Use your school's academic support resources for those needs.
Do introductions guarantee interviews or offers?
No. Introductions can help you learn about a firm and build relationships. Each firm controls its own interview and hiring decisions.
Is there a fee, and how do I join?

A Williams College graduate in Political Economy and English with a year of study at Oxford, Topjor served as Communications Director at Students for a Free Tibet, leading advocacy before the U.N. Human Rights Council and securing coverage in The New York Times, BBC, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal. He co-directed Rokpa Mentorship, which has placed 100% of its first-generation Tibetan high school mentees into four-year universities since 2020. A cohort that gets to know one another
Scholars join a specific cohort, then take the lead on getting to know one another. They organize optional dinners, coffees, campus tours, and other get-togethers, often before 1L begins. I pay as much attention to how the group will work together as I do to credentials.
