AAPI Big Law Partners
NALP AmLaw 200 Average (2024)
While AAPI partner representation (5.21%) is closer to U.S. population share (7.7%) than most demographic groups, the real story is internal. AAPI attorneys make up 13.29% of Big Law associates, one of the strongest entry-level pools of any demographic, yet that number collapses to just 5.21% at the partnership level. The problem is not entry-level hiring. It is promotion, leadership advancement, and whether existing power structures in Big Law view AAPI attorneys as "leadership material," a pattern of racial bias that mirrors the barriers faced by Black and Latine attorneys at equally persistent rates.
